Journals in Term 2

I have really enjoyed reading your journals, and by now you should have your journal back and marked.

This term I am going to tell you what your journal entries should be about each week.  This will help those of you that find it hard to think of things to write and also ensure that your journal contains variety.

  • Week 2 – If I were the teacher, I would…
  • Week 3 – If I could give one piece of advice to any famous person, past or present, that advice would be…
  • Week 4 – Tell five things you’d like to do on your next birthday. Extend your answers.
  • Week 5 – Imagine a friend of yours is considering whether to start smoking. What would you tell that friend to persuade him or her not to do that?  You could write this as a comic strip.
  • Week 6 – In 20 years, I will be…
  • Week 7 – I was most angry when…
  • Week 8 – If you could design one room in a house to suit only your needs, what would it look like? (You can be as fanciful as you like. For example, would someone have a desk made of chocolate?) You can describe or draw your ideal room.
  • Week 9 – You have the freedom to travel to any city or country in the world. Where would you go and why?
Keep up to date with your journal – don’t leave it all to the last week (I can tell!!!)
I’ll collect them in on week 5 and at the end of term.

Holidays by Jack

Everyone knows that the school holidays are finished up and everyone is back at school and everyone asks to everyone “What did you do on the school holidays?” or “Do you want to hear what I did on the school holidays?’.  I and everyone else would love to hear what you all have got up to in the school holidays so I have left four questions for everyone to answer, so now everyone will know what everyone did on the school holidays.

Question 1: What did you get up to this school holidays?

Question 2: If you could go anywhere in the world for a dream holiday where would it be and who would you take?

Question 3: If you were spending a school holiday at home what would you do to make your holiday better?

Question 4: If your mum/dad gave you 500 dollars to spend on a holiday vacation what would you spend it on?

I look forward to reading your answers!

In week 3 of this term our school is getting 2 milking cows.  They will be 3 weeks old and that means they are only babies.  On Friday the 10th of May at 1:15 pm years 3 up to 7 (us) went down to our school library to hear from a man called John that works with farmers that have cows, he is a Dairy Industry Advocate. He told us some interesting facts.  For instance: if you have a dairy farm with 300 cows you have 3 million dollars worth of stuff; and there are different types of cows for different for different things. For example, the black and white cows are milking cows and the brown cows are beef cows.  He also told us how to feed the cows and how many times you need to milk a milking cow.

So now, us year 7s are ready for these two calves to come into our school!

Hello from Mrs Colley

Hello Year Seven’s I hope you are having a great start to the term and all had a wonderful holiday.  We are having a fantastic time and learning lots each day.  At the moment we are in Ballarat in Victoria which is a very old gold mining town.  Yesterday we went to Sovereign Hill which is a recreated olden day village.  We all really enjoyed it especially Ben.  When we were panning for gold Ben found quite a few specks and that’s all he wanted to  do all day, he had gold fever!  We all got dressed up in olden day clothes and had our photo taken, we weren’t allowed to smile!   Good luck this week with Naplan, I know you will all do well. Miss you all and I will be in touch later in the term.

Numero by Jack

Hello Everyone,

Today, 10 April, 2013 from 8:40am to 10:50am we the  Year 7′s were in the Library learning about a new maths card game called Numero. It is a fun maths card game that helps you with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions. We started at Level 1 where we just had number cards then we went on to Level 2,  where as well as having number cards we had wild card that could subtract, multiply and divide. Then we had to stop the game and go and have recess. I think that Numero is a good game for any one, even the people that are not as good at maths.

Journal Ideas

I have had a few requests for ideas for journal entries.  So here are a few to keep you going!

  • What would you do if you were tranported back to the Middle Ages? Keep in mind that there are no modern conveniences, such as televisions, grocery stores, or sterile operating rooms.
  • If you could visit any place on earth, where would you go?
  • Which super power do you wish you had? How would you use it to do good?
  • You just won a thousand dollar shopping spree to your favorite store. What would you buy?
  • You woke up in the middle of the woods. How did you get there? How will you get back home?
  • You were marooned on a deserted island with three useful things and one completely useless thing. What are they and how will you use them to survive?
  • Which person, living or dead, do you admire the most? Why?
Hope these are useful – I have some more that I’ll put up another time.

Blessing of the Road Ceremony by Bradley

Blessing of the Roads is a gathering for the community to bless the roads so we can have less accidents and deaths.
The ceremony started with a song called “Sing” that was performed by the St. Brigid’s Senior Choir which the audience obviously enjoyed. Then we had a speech by the Shire President and later we had a speech from the head boy and head girl from each of the 4 schools of our shire which was all about what road safety means to them.  Later we had a song called “Doctor Doctor” that was sung by the Junior Choir of St Brigid’s.  The audience clapped wildly in awe of their amazing performance!  And lastly we were handed black and white balloons. White stood for the injuries caused by car accidents and black stood for the deaths. We let these go which represented that we hope there will be less accidents.

Inter school Swimming Carnival by Anton

When we arrived at the pool I felt a little sick due to how nervous I was, although I overcame it (mostly) and went to do my stretches. After some muscle-bending stretches I jumped in the pool and almost died because it was probably around -12 degrees in the pool!  I decided I would rather swim than sink to the floor so I started swimming very fast until I warmed up little. After we got out of the demonic pool I bolted straight for my towel and rugged up for about 5 minutes. It wasn’t much but it was better than nothing.  Soon it was time for me to line  up on the blocks for my butterfly race…

As soon as I hit that water I felt all my nervous adrenaline go straight into my arms and legs, which allowed me to power through my first half and half of the second, but the last half was tough. However, I still managed to come 1st. For my next 3 races I came 1st, 2nd and 1st which guaranteed my medal for Champion Boy so I was pretty delighted. We also won the relays so that meant… We won the first Inter-school swimming carnival ever! When we got back to school we had a big party and had lots of fun – our principal treated us to a sausage sizzle!

Vegetable Garden by Imogen

A few weeks ago we got down and dirty planting our very own vegetable garden  with honey pod peas, iceberg lettuce, beetroot, cabbage, cauliflower, violas, silver beet, broccolini and when the season comes, potatoes. We definitely have a handful! With so many crops growing we need someone to water them all and luckily we have Travis in our class!  He’s done so much to help with the veggie patch, it’s looking fantastic.

So when the season comes, what would you like to grow?

Cartoon Capers

We have been looking at different forms of English (Aussie slang, formal, ‘text’ speak, American slang etc) and how it helps to identify us.  We made up a conversation between two people who are speaking contrasting forms of English and then presented it using the ComicLife app on our iPads.
